2008-04-14
Havana offers travelers a new and important tourist attraction inspired by Cuba's extraordinary cultural and artistic wealth: the
Café Vista Alegre Project, whose permanent venue is the spectacular Habana Café, at the Meliá Cohiba Hotel.
Café Vista Alegre promotes the Cuban musical repertoire of 1920s through the 1950s, performed by famed national and international figures.
The project is part of an original idea by popular Cuban musician Pancho Amat and singer Noel Nicola, which was first presented in Paris at the end of February with great success.
Originally, from 1898 to1948, there was a Café Vista Alegre in the Cuban capital, which became the regular haunt of artists and intellectuals such as Sindo Garay, Miguel Matamoros, Fernando Ortiz and Arsenio Rodriguez.
Each presentation of the Café Vista Alegre Project at the Habana Café will be hosted by musician Pancho Amat and accompanied by some of the foremost performers of traditional Cuban music.
This new attraction is a the result of a cooperation effort between the Ministry of Culture and Sol Meliá, which continues include the inexhaustible inspiration of Cuban culture in its tourist product for the enjoyment of its clients.
